On Aug. 14, we celebrated the opening of Akany Avoko's newest building, the Bamboo House. This new building was made possible with the financial support of our "Ici et Ailleurs" grant through the European Union.

The boys of Akany are the most excited by the new building, because the Bamboo House is their new home. The 2-story building has room to sleep 20 boys, so there is room to grow for the 9 boys now living there. There is also a common room for studying and playing games and a staff room with shower, kitchenette and bathroom. Soon, there will be a social worker living fulltime in the house and serving as a counselor and role model for our beloved boys.
In the upcoming months, showers and toilets and a rain water collection system will be added to the new dorm. There will also be some more furniture added before the start of the school year, so the students have a proper place to study.
The inauguration was a wonderful celebration of Akany's continuing growth and improvement of care.
